CANAL100/120 II: O₂ and CO₂ analyzer for MAP (VIGAZ)
What it is for and who uses it
The CANAL100/120 II is an analyzer for measuring modified atmospheres in food packaging: the CANAL100 version measures O₂ and the CANAL120 version measures O₂ and CO₂. According to the VIGAZ data sheet, it is a benchtop instrument for production or laboratory environments. It is easy to use: a measurement is started at the press of a button and stops when the sensors have finished reacting; the values are then frozen, so each measurement is almost automatic. At start-up it draws in air to calibrate itself automatically at 20.95 %.

How it is used, according to the data sheet: insert the needle through a septum and press "P"; the pump draws the sample for the programmed time, an hourglass shows the progress of the measurement and, once the reading has stabilised, it is locked on the display. There is no need to draw in air between one measurement and the next.

What sets it apart, according to the VIGAZ data sheets: a single data sheet covers the CANAL100 (O₂) and CANAL120 (O₂ and CO₂) versions. It is powered at 100-230 V - 50/60 Hz, measures 29 x 19 x 7 cm, weighs 1.5 kg, has IP54 protection and an O₂ resolution of 0.01 %. By contrast, the CANAL111 II and CANAL121 III run on a rechargeable 9 V NiMH battery with an O₂ resolution of 0.1 %, and the BOX100 II and BOX120 II models have IP65 protection.
